Kaysersberg | Autumnal Beauty on the Alsatian Wine Route

After an arduous drive northwards from Villefrance-sur-Saône (a sweet provincial town set in the heart of Beaujolais country..), we trekked through Dijon and upwards towards Colmar… Having visited Strasbourg earlier in the trip, we loved this fusion of French/German heritage across the architecture, food and people in Alsace

Sadly the motorhome sites in/around Colmar were full…. but every dark cloud has a silver lining and it’s meant we’ve enjoyed a wonderful 24hrs in Kaysersberg… a mini Colmar without the crowds!! Arriving late in the evening, we found the motorhome aire (right beside the old town) and headed in for a closer inspection so Lottie could take these below photos! (it’s been brilliant to see a growing passion for photography develop over the course of the year)
Waking up early to get some home schooling completed, we followed the girl’s grandparents into this stunningly pretty town… Set in the Haut-Rhin, surrounded by vineyards and sitting underneath an imposing castle, Kaysersberg is full of cobbled streets, quaint shops and cheerful, coloured timber houses.

The Alsace Wine Route is famed for both the quality of the vignobles enroute, but also the pretty old towns that adorn it’s route. Including places that are well worth  visit such as Obernai, Gueswiller or Mittelbergheim… However the major benefit of any trip to Kayserberg is the proximity to two other fantastic villages – Riquewihr & Ribeauville… There really is plenty to do here either on bikes, strolling the shops/cobble streets or just grabbing an ice cream and watching the world go by as the autumn leaves fall to the ground… Utter Peacefulness!
