Valencia Bio Parc | One of Valencia’s Top 5 ‘Family Travel’ Attractions

Score 0%
Valencia offers an amazing mixture of fun packed opportunities for ‘family travellers’! Including chances to see the city for free (like our bike ride around the active, outdoor centre in the Garden of Turia) to the paid attractions like the Bio Parc

All easily accessed either by bike, on foot or by using the Valencia Card (well worth the money as it covers not just public transport costs but also offer multiple discounts to museums across the city). Regular readers of our articles, will know just how much we rate these family travel cards as they take all the pressure out of the day and offer us a chance to see things we may not normally have opted for… just like our recent trip to Norway’s capital Oslo in June.!
V alencia’s Bio Parc is one of those ‘must see’ places in Valencia… alongside the City of the Arts & Sciences or the Museum of the Fallos whilst not forgetting a chance to eat the regional dish (paella) on one of the beachside restaurants.. We’d even rate it as highly as the Den Blaa Planet Aquarium that we visited in CopenhagenThe Valencia Bio Parc matches the Den Blaa Planet for it’s obvious interest in conservation & the animal’s welfare. Yet it also manages to create a vivid and imaginative scene for children to fully immerse themselves in the ‘animal kingdom’ whilst offering chances to rest’n’play too!! Reducing the barriers makes a huge difference as you feel part of the environment… yet its also a green project recycling over 95% of it’s water usage, making use of solar energy at every possible point across the 100,000m ² site..

It’s well priced and easy to reach through the beautiful ‘Garden of Turia’ (if you stop at the Turia Metro – Line1)… it’s truly staggering how you can walk across the bridge that separates Valencia and the Bio Parc… and be in an oasis of Madagascan beauty or feel the arid heat of the duty savannah.. There’s no poetic licence here, the Park took 5 years to craft and build so each region (Madagascar, Wetland, Grottos, Equatorial Forest, Baobab Forest & Savannah) really does feel individual..The walkways have been cleverly designed to lower you to animal level as you twist’n’turn through the areas.. with lemurs flying over your head to elephants that can shower you with water (you really are that close!)

The Map of the BioParc is available here if that helps give a little background… but we feel that it’s the perfect place to spend an afternoon.. just watching what you fancy… whether it’s a lemur lounging languidly in the crook of a branch or the lion roaring it’s displeasure at the birds that seek to interrupt his patrols of the Savannah..

Make sure you don’t miss these highlights

  • Eating Paella in the central restaurant overlooking the Savannah.. truly breath taking views with animals so close you felt they were checking out your food!
  • Taking the tour of the Lemurs… best walkways in the whole Bio Parc
  • Spending time watching the gorillas interact… great to see the mother / son games and highly amusing to see the mother/father fun…….!!
  • Taking a camera and letting Lottie loose… just the perfect place to let your children develop their interest in photography (all pictures above come from her!!! Not bad for a 10yr old, but I might be a little biased)
Would we recommend a family visit?  We’d go one further, we reckon there’s something for everyone here, but our girls loved feeling part of each environment, the opportunity to take pictures and the chance to see some of their geography/biology homeschooling in action. Yes, it’s well worth an afternoon (between2-3hrs should be enough time, but you may just want to spend more!)

Thanks for your write-up on this web site. From my personal experience, there are times when softening upward a photograph could possibly provide the digital photographer with an amount of an inspired flare. Sometimes however, the soft blur isn’t just what you had in mind and can sometimes spoil a normally good picture, especially if you thinking about enlarging it.
