Croatia | Discovering why Zadar was Europe’s Top Tourist Destination in 2016

Croatia | Discovering why Zadar was Europe’s Top Tourist Destination in 2016Score 92%Score 92%

Why would we recommend Croatia’s Zaton Holiday Resort? Zaton Holiday Resort has something for everyone from an inflatable aqua park to beautiful boutique shops and restaurants. Zaton Holiday Resort is the perfect place to explore Zadar, the top European destinations 2016.

Zadar was recently elected Best European Destination 2016. Winning the prestigious title over more established rivals such as Athens, Plovdiv, Nantes, The Azores Islands, Paris, Novi Sad, Brussels, Kotor, Milan, Prague, Rome, Vienna, Madrid and Nicosia.

So where better to discover more about Zadar’s wealth of attractions than Zaton Holiday Resort just outside Zadar, another of the fantastic campsites that fall under the banner of Europe’s Leading Campings.

Lying close to Zadar on the azure blue waters of the Adriatic Sea, this sprawling holiday resort(both campsite and apartments) is 4 km from the oldest Croatian royal town of Nin and its interesting Solana Nin Salt Museum. However, it’s only just over an hour away by motorhome from another of our favourite campsites at Šimuni on the island of Pag… But if you like facilities, facilities, facilities, you’ll love taking your kids to Zaton Holiday Resort! That said, we’re sure all motorhomers will love the spacious plot sizes, all shaded with mature trees and well manicured gardens. It’s just got that feeling of a little luxury that sometimes makes any motorhoming/camping holiday that bit easier!
They say Croatia is ‘Full of Life’ and we’ve fallen in love with each and every aspect of this beautiful country and their spectacular range of coastal campsites. However some are quiet and island based whilst others bustle with intent either day or night and Zaton can rightfully declare itself to be one of these. It just seems to have something going on for all ages. The walk down the central market area at night is as packed as the beach & aqua park is during the day!
As the summer holiday draws ever nearer, we know this will be the ‘now or never’ moment for some families who are contemplating taking a chance and eschewing conventional holidays to France or Spain. As we’re incredibly fortunate to have stayed in over 400 campsites in the past 2 years, we reckon we might be getting towards the  stage where we can call ourselves ‘experienced campers’! So why would we recommend Zaton?
Firstly, they’ve got ‘water based fun’ covered! Either from the hugely entertaining ‘inflatable’ aqua park that has been such a hit across Europe…or the enormous new ‘water complex’ they’re currently completing for 2017. As I type this, the first pools have started filling up… so if you fancy finding more, check this link out (click here) Add in plenty of beachside entertainment from pony rides to volleyball, or stages for evening animation and plenty of cafés that line the beach.
Add in a little onsite shopping in the nice (not tacky) boutique shops, superb sanitary facilities and a well signposted campsite/holiday resort and it’s starting to become a viable option for a decent 7 or 14 day break. But not everyone wants to spend the entire time in a  resort, we certainly don’t… even one as nice as this! So what else is there nearby? As Zadar is fast becoming the hottest place on the Adriatic, there is a huge variety of choice for active families… So we thought we’d put them to the test and try out some options. Adding our favourite below – Buggy Safari (BioGrad), Horse Riding (Nin) & Island Boat Tour & Scuba Diving (Zadar)
Location, Location, Location! A favourite TV programme for our family back home before we started off on this ‘life changing’ European Roadtrip, it really is a phrase that is crucial when opting for a campsite to enjoy on a holiday abroad. For us, we just want to find somewhere to relax, spend time together as a family and enjoy the sunny climate… so we hope the above pictures might just give you an idea on what it feels like to pull up a chair and enjoy the view across the campsite!
Although it’s been a short break in Zadar, it’s been packed full of fun during the day. Followed by relaxed wanders around the campsite in the evening, the occasional meal out and plenty of fun and laughter throughout. The perfect break for us, so it’ll easily make it into our ‘Top 40 Places to Stay’ in Europe… so perhaps it might be right for you and your families?
