Visiting the Amazing Alhambra……A true Spanish highlight of of our European Roadtrip

It’s hard to put into words the beauty of the Alhambra – be it within the spectacular gardens, the mesmeric inner palace rooms or on top of the fortress walls…
The Muslim palace is certainly a place of awe as each room opens up to display yet more intricate carvings, marble floors, inside water features or inner gardens…. it is supposed to signify ‘heaven’ from an Islamic viewpoint and it is hard to argue with how beautiful the sight is within the inner palace.
Yet the gardens or summer palace did not take second billing, as they were equally spectacular but for differing reasons…. viewpoints were everywhere… magnificent backdrops of snow covered mountains or a glittering array of unique flowers followed by a water feature…. It really was an enchanting place to spend a worthy hour or two…
The Fortress perhaps offered the least to view, yet the best viewpoint of them all….. with the city of Granada laid out below, and views to the Sierra Nevada and beyond… it really was a beautiful sight!!!
In terms of other details, we enjoyed numerous bus rides to get to the top, managed to use our rain jackets for the first time (albeit for a very short time), enjoyed some of the fine shopping in Granada and even had time to visit the oldest tea room in Granada (for hot chocolate and pastries)
It would be fair to say our feet ache tonight, so it will be a late ‘get up’ tomorrow before we consider whether to head into the Sierra Nevada, or north to Cordoba or south to Ronda….. decisions, decisions, decisions!!!
Fantastic view from Alhambra today.... definitely in the top 10 'must see' sites for Europe!! pic.twitter.com/XAnhoajPJd
