Tested our Inner Monkeys on the Voss Active High Ropes course!

Having followed Fjord Norway‘s suggested route to Voss, we all wondered just why this place is the ‘adventure capital’ of Norway…. well yesterday’s indoor sky diving at Voss Vind was a great introduction but today at Voss Active just took it to a whole new level… Voss Active are a great company judging by today and you’ve got trust the people who suspend your kids 30ft in the air!

They were great to work with and their staff today were fantastic… especially Lauma, Lauris, Chris & Caroline! Their enthusiasm was infectious and we were amazed at the setting for the high ropes course…. You have to enter via a bridge over a roaring torrent (no exaggeration, it is something to behold) that provides the amazing experience for both white water rafting and family rafting. (Can’t wait to try these tomorrow too!)
The Voss Active ropes course is split into 3 sections so pretty much anyone can enjoy it – from the thrill seekers on the high ropes to the youngsters on the mini rope section… but all were interesting in their own way and entertained both girls (and us) for well over 3hrs.
All are set high into the trees that line the valley floor, alongside the roaring river and steep gorge sides…. it is hugely atmospheric and clearly well made and serviced! It just had the feeling of a slick operation with families everywhere having fun… they’d even got special tented areas for relaxation time – not that we managed it!!! This was going to be a test of our nerves and the kids ability to handle heights… a real family challenge!

Every family adventure should have Something special

Both girls were straight into it, after the instruction briefing of course,  and headed for the first section – some 20-30ft high with 8 intricate roped bridges before a zip wire of some 30m+ in length… the quality of the harness and sling system was brilliant and unbelievably smooth throughout – both kids felt instantly at ease and loved every minute!!

Moving onto the higher ropes, Lottie and Catherine jumped onto this slightly higher series of challenges… mainly as Lottie was tall enough and Catherine wanted to go on the 70m+ zippier… although this did require a new harness and new set of instructions to learn the ‘double clip’ system

Libby meanwhile was loving the challenge of the existing high ropes and was soon having adventures about her adventures in defeating imaginary enemies – ducking to avoid cannons and sending magic spells to defeat the enemies – a great adventure both physically and also imaginatively….. all to the sound of gunshots echoing around the gorge from the local rifle club… just priceless!!

So all in all, a great day… we’re delighted we managed all of it and tested new boundaries for the girls… equally delighted we found somewhere well managed, staffed and run… a real confidence booster!

After the ropes, it was back to the amazingly situated TvindeFossen Campsite underneath a roaring waterfall… does this place get any better!!!???
