The Slovenian Riviera at Piran….

The Slovenian Riviera at Piran….

We’d been told by numerous people that no visit to Slovenia was complete without sampling the delights of Piran…. so we duly donned our cycling kit and took our chances!! Picturesque Piran is one of the best preserved historical towns on the Adriatic, known for its long pier and Venetian Architecture.

Although pricey the campsite near the marina was the perfect launching spot for a decent 20km cycle around the coastal paths and into Piran and beyond… but if the truth be told, the aire next to the Marina would be our choice when we return… more secluded, fully serviced and perhaps even a better view (just no showers etc if that’s what you prefer…)

Piran itself, is worthy of a mention for various reasons… the main square with Giuseppe Tartini overlooking its beautiful cafe culture, or the fishermen unloading their daily catches in the harbour no more than 50m away.. or even the main galleries, maritime museums if you can spare the time…

It’s a clutch of sunny colours that remain us of Positano or Cinque Terre whilst it has that Adriatic feel that we so loved in Dubrovnik and earlier on across the Amalfi coastline

The ride was flat and easy and certainly not testing so the girls jumped onto the bungee and trampolines that adorn this pretty seaside resort… were we glad we visited, absolutely, would we return? Yes certainly, Slovenia seems to have it all…. natural beauty (Postojna Caves), charming cafe culture (Ljubljana) and now this riviera feel! And we haven’t even seen the Soca Valley or Lake Bled/Bohina!

With time passing us by quickly now, we’ve decided to head north for a white water rafting experience with at Lake Bled / River Sava with Life Adventures …. everyone can’t wait!!!
