Playa Montroig Camping Resort | 5+ Reasons To Choose This Tropical ParadiseScore 90%Score 90%

If you’ve stayed at this large resort-style campsite near Tarragona, you’ll know it’s set in a spectacular sub-tropical setting with direct access to its own sandy beach. It’s a special Leading Campings campsite gem not to be missed….

So imagine holidays spent jumping into the sub-tropical pool for yet another splash around with the kids or evenings enjoying the numerous activities/shows on offer for all ages.  All this in an idyllic setting amongst palm trees and flowers….. the perfect recipe for some rest and relaxation!!

Situated on the ‘Costa Daurada’ close to the interesting Roman Port of Tarragona, Playa Montroig is well located to explore further afield too. Port Aventura and Barcelona are within touching distance by car/motorhome (with organised excursions also offered by the campsite). Whilst those seeking nature might head for Tamarit-Punta de la Móra, a natural park on a headland covered in pine forest. Full of fragrant trails and paths to coves like Cala Becs and Cala Fonda.

But for those that choose to spend their time inside the ‘Leading Campings‘ resort style complex at Playa Montroig, you’ll not be disappointed by what you find… so we thought we’d try and distil it down into six reasons why we’d happily return here next summer.

Every campsite should have Something special

We’ve been fortunate to see some of Europe’s best campsites over the past 2 years, and each have had something to remember them by. For instance, Tiroler Zugspitze’s Cable Car or Camping Krk Resort’s ‘infinity pool’ takes some beating…. not to mention Aufenfeld’s panoramic ‘natural alpine lake’ …. But for Playa Montroig, you have to look no further than the palm fringed water slides or perhaps the fantastically comfortable ‘astroturf’ sunbathing area that wraps itself around the vast array of pools.

Something for everyone… Even if you’re not a camper

Although we’ve never stayed in one of these ‘bungalows’ / ‘villas etc… we have had a decent look around one in Croatia (see this article for full internal/external pictures) and we can certainly see why it’s a growing sector for campsites. Especially when you consider the ease of access by cheap low cost flights and the amount of facilities on site…

Maybe one day we’ll really consider it for our family, but for now we love the freedom that our motorhome offers….. But for those without motorhomes, we can see why you’d happily wake up to the view above each morning of your holiday!

Forgot something? Don’t worry the facilities are fantastic

On the surface of it, the quality of the campsite facilities and shops aren’t huge factors in a choice of campsite. Most opt for fantastic views or amazing water parks… but having great facilities just seems to make any stay go that little easier… Especially when you consider the quality of their supermarket, on site bakery, newsagent, fishmonger…. plus those shower blocks are some of the best designed ones we’ve seen so far in Europe!

new Sport? Test your padel skills!

FFor regular followers, you’ll know just how active our family is… Each of us love any opportunity to get out and enjoy the outdoors… whether it’s sports or simply kayaking or hiking… We love any chance to add to our growing list of European Family Adventures. Always delighted to return to new sports, we leapt at the chance to use Playa Montroig’s Sports Centre to help introduce the girl’s grandparents to the Spanish game of Padel (first learnt in La Marina last year

The Sports Centre houses not just Padel courts, but also full size football fields and basketball courts… not to mention a handball court. All are fantastically well kept and located in a series of parks full of beautiful old olive trees… A great location that offered us a a brilliant afternoon of fun and exercise! (all courts and equipment can be booked from reception for an additional fee. in the case of Padel, it cost us about £15)

After some busy days either in the water parks, enjoying the beach or playing in the sports centre… each evening has been spent enjoying a quiet drink on the sun terrace overlooking the pools……as the girls check out the entertainment schedule for the following day.

Whether you’re camping, touring or staying in one of their luxury mobile homes… it’s the perfect place to enjoy one of Spain’s most beautiful campsites and we’d happily return in a heartbeat! It’s been a great start to our adventures northwards towards France.
