Part 3 Commences – Heading for Italy, Slovenia and Germany (through France)

A journalist recently asked me if the whole European Roadtrip route was planned or were we ever allowed to ‘go off piste’ so to speak…. well i clearly said it was a heavily planned expedition with every stop mapped out until late April…. but it would be stretching the truth to say this was planned!!! So here’s how we started ‘Roadtrip 3’ into Europe

Waking to the wind whistling in our ears, yet a good forecast ahead, we descended over the hill and into Dover… it always brings back great memories of family holidays both recent and afar…Well rested after a night at the Caravan Club site (Black Horse) just outside the port, we were full of adventure as we drove onto the DFDS sailing to Dunkirk… Part 3 was starting!!! Would the journey be as good in the new Adria Matrix, would we get snow to test the sledges or would we return with a sun tan after some time in Scilly…

The crossing was a breeze, great service from some kind folk on board and we then head east towards Belgium from the port…. the idea, a frantic race through 4 countries to our eventual destination in Metz, France…. would we make it!!!The journey was full of very easy roads, flat if a little uninspiring scenery and some wonderful roads as we entered Luxembourg… In fairness both the Belgium and Luxembourg road system were brilliant and we look forward to visiting here on the way back. That said, we were racing south towards Metz…. briefly stopping to see the old city in Luxembourg before heading back over the border into France. Sadly no photos came out… too much rain…. but it relented in France!!!

So onto the blackness of a public aire in Metz at night…. what would the morning bring… had we chosen wisely…??? As ever more pictures are always to be found on our Facebook site – just click link the link at the top right of page
