Looking back over an amazing family experience across 2016... but what comes out on top? (Part 1 of 2)
With the clinking of glasses ringing in our ears, we sat down as a family at precisely 12.01am to discuss the year past.... What would prove to be the biggest learning experience? Which place gave us the most fun as a family....? Which adventure did the girls love the most!!!
So here it is, the youngsters have wrestled control of the keyboard for today's blog, and they've decided to create a New Year special.....
SO HERE GOES WITH LOTTIE AND LIBBY'S
As our trip has progressed, both girls have developed a real interest each... gymnastics for Libby, whilst Lottie has taken to grabbing the camera to expand her growing photography skills!! So where better to learn than overlooking the iconic 'Geirangerfjord' in Norway... and a picture that placed 2nd in the 'Lonely Planet Young Photographer of the Year' competition...
Of all the cities we've visited across Europe (including stunners like Copenhagen, Dubrovnik or Bordeaux).. none overtook Porto in Portugal...A city full of small alleyways, historic experiences and links to Portugal's impressive history as 'adventurers & explorers'... It's this that struck a chord with both girls who are already urging us to book a return trip in 2017
This was certainly Libby's favourite... in fact she's taken the keyboard hostage to write this herself!....Thanks to Voss Vind, we can chalk this one up as a brilliant family experience!
"I loved flying high into the tunnel. My favourite part was seeing Daddy turned upside down. Mummy was brilliant at it and I enjoyed it because it's cool to feel like you don't weigh anything at all''
Lottie's individual choice... The hike up via a cable car+climb to over 2,500m of brooding volcanic menace including 2ft deep snow was hard work, but the views were amazing into the lava ridden summit... Little did we know that it would erupt only 6 weeks later! (On Mt Etna = Full Berghaus Snow Gear!, in Catania = swimming kit to swim in the lava pools! Sicillian Madness!!!!)
A joint favourite to finish, the smiles on both girl's faces as they careered over the initial 6ft drop in their river raft was almost as big as the one when they jumped into the river from a fully 15ft ledge (yes we did it too... before you ask!)... The River Cetina in Croatia was the perfect introduction to family fun in the water, which has created an enduring love of watersports that has affected our travels ever since!
