You just have to read our first article on Valencia to realise the truth in the statement... "Don't be fooled by first impressions: there's a lot more to this city than first meets the eye." With it's warm climate, accessible old quarter and Europe's newest cultural and scientific exhibition area, it makes for a great choice for a family city break. Valencia certainly caters for lots of tastes, perhaps aptly too, bearing in mind the first paella sizzled here over an open wood fire over 1200 years ago. It's also the city that we've revisited the most in our European Roadtrip... So why would we rate Valencia so highly?
Imagine an attraction dedicated solely to the giants of years past in Teruel? Dinopolis is sited in a place that has seen thousands of dinosaurs found within the very earth beneath you. It's the perfect playground for children with an imagination as they visit 3D/4D theatres, dig for fossils, take rides though history, play in the playgrounds, see dinosaur skeletons in the indoor museum… and so much more! With several acres of Dinopolis to explore, your family might also find yourselves wandering amongst some of the most feared predators ever to walk the planet!
Whether you're island hopping along the Croatian Coastline, punting down the canals of Venice, speeding down the Lillehammer Bobsleigh or sipping a coffee in a Viennese cafe. Europe offers plenty of iconic experiences to enjoy. So how does the North of Spain compare?
It's been a hectic dash eastwards as we head across the North of Spain for a chance to see Bordeaux before we return home for Christmas... although we've spent almost a decade visiting the Gironde each summer, we've never seen Bordeaux! So we're desperate to put that right now especially as the Christmas Markets are in full flow... both here in Bordeaux and further up the coast in Nantes and Angers.
Ever since we departed France back in early November from Lourdes, we've completed parts of the famous route of the pilgrims, the Camino de Santiago . Even stepping out to tread some of the pilgrims steps ourselves across the Pyrennes towards Spain, but then our travels took us south towards Valencia and then up through the beautiful country of Portugal... so it's been a brilliant experience to finally arrive at the inspiring Santiago de Compostela.
Having visited Seville almost a year to the day on our last family adventure, we were interested to see how we'd feel about seeing the city in the day... our previous visit had started at dusk with both girls treated to a horse drawn carriage ride across Seville before opting for an evening of tapas.. but with Southern Europe being battered by storms, would we enjoy Seville as much as we had before in the pouring rain?
Leaving any campsite after an enjoyable stay is hard, but when you've enjoyed yourself as much as we have at La Marina Resort... it's even tougher when both girls have come to feel so safe and happy here!! But sadly the nature of our journey across Europe means that we've become accustomed to these goodbyes.. but today was even more poignant and sad!! Will we ever return to La Marina's hustle and bustle and the wonderful sense of community that exists here...
What an amazing experience for any family motorhomer in Spain! Nestled in the citrus lined hills near Águilas is the charming and utterly authentic Spanish Campsite Experience... located around a stunning old Spanish 'Finca' (farmhouse) La Quinta Bella positively screams peace/quiet & community for those that winter here... but there's really something for everyone all year round!!
If you're pulling a big RV across Europe then the 200sqm plots will be a welcome sight or if you're searching for something to tickle your taste buds then the chef Mark is a true hidden gem! The local produce from the 'Garden of Spain' led to platefuls of food which were devoured in record time in the newly created 'TJ's wooden bar'... full of carvings that reminded us a little of our visit to Alhambra in Grenada. Whilst the sunny pool area sits impressively alongside the new dining area but enjoys views over seemingly miles & miles of orange groves and mountains... perfect to explore on foot or by bike
