Having spent Easter in the wonderfully sunny Catania, it seemed a good opportunity to grab the bikes and work off some of those Easter Eggs that adorned the cupboards of our motorhome...
With no fixed plans, but a great map from the kind owners of Camping Jonio, we headed out on Easter Monday to see what we could find...
The streets were lined with families enjoying the late afternoon sun as they spent time enjoying each others company... we passed numerous family gatherings and even a fairground!!! before arriving in the centre of Catania near to Bellini's park... this fantastic park full of climbing apparatus and wonderful trees was a mecca of calm in this vibrant city...
We continued on the bikes down the Via Etna towards the main piazza with the centuries old churches that have such historic significance in this part of Sicily... with links to miracles and St Peter/Paul... we gazed in awe at the golden light that bathed the beautiful buildings (whilst holding a gelato!!!!)
With more to see we headed off towards the famous fish market and then via the fountains towards yet another park beside the main port.. Although the ride back was a little worrying due to the nature of the Sicilian driving.... we made it back in one piece to enjoy yet another sunset going down over the lava pools.. sadly we must move on so Syracuse beckons tomorrow...
