Motorhoming in Norfolk | Sizzlingly Hot Holkham Beach….

If there is a considerably better beach in the UK than we haven’t visited it yet…. a bold statement from Lottie but perhaps not too far off the mark! In fact, now we’ve seen 35 European Countries we now reckon it’s good enough to be in our ‘Top 5 Favourite Coastlines across Europe’

With its winding paths through pine forests on elevated walkways… it enjoys a wonderful start to the possibilities that lie beyond the first set of dunes… with horses and riders streaming past to the left to enjoy their morning hacks, we ventured right and onto the estuarial mud plains….

Its nature reserve is well, well worth a visit and could easily occupy more than a day, as too could the walk towards nearby Wells… thankfully after a busy, busy day you can always find the ice cream van and nearby pubs open and ready for business!!! But we had the day ahead of us, so we headed out into the glorious sunshine and picture perfect white, sandy dunes… the estuarial rivers positively warm due to the recent good weather….

With little planned apart from a decent dog walk, a game of beach cricket and a chance to have a family picnic… I can’t think of many better places to spend a day! The beach was quieter after the weekend and the wind was gentle enough to take away the full heat of the sun. North Norfolk has over 90km of coastline (3 more if the tide is out!) and this beach stretches for over 5miles so you are guaranteed a spot to yourself… both girls were soon jumping over the dunes, diving down the soft sandy inclines… sheer unadulterated joy!!!

Every beach should have Something special

Following a picnic, the games of beach cricket resumed in full flow with dives and decent boundary carry in evidence… both girls were in their element and it just shows how quickly they pick up and embrace new skills… normally found with tennis or rounders bats, they have taken to beach cricket with real aplomb….

After the 3rd hour!!!!! my bowling arm had tightened up and the occasional bad delivery was becoming a regular occurrence… thankfully the Don Bradman’s of the LifeininourVan world were equally tired.. so we packed up our new GISO towels and headed back to the vans… With a brief stop for ice creams, we piled back into the vans and onto Stamford for a chance to add to our growing Treasure Hunt series…
