Motorhoming in England | Family Fun adventure on SUPs at Nene Outdoors

With new additions to the ‘LifeinourVan’ family this week… Inspired by the Rio Olympics, we’ve returned back to the UK to give the girls a chance to enjoy time with their cousins and to grab a new water sports adventure at Nene Park.

But not before adding another ‘family first’ to our growing Family Adventures list across Europe…. this time grabbing a ‘tandem cycle’, ‘electric mountain bike’ and bikes for the girls from Rutland Cycles… they couldn’t have been more helpful and we loved every second as we hared around the 4.5km loop(s) of the ‘Ferry Meadow’ lakeside. Numerous activities/shows on offer for all ages.

Seemingly whatever your age or ability, it appears there is something for everyone at Nene Outdoors! There are kayaks, canoes, stand up paddle boards (SUPs), row boats … plus the brand new and apparently very popular swan pedals. (something we’d seen at Chenonceau recently)

After speaking to the young, enthusiastic staff… we gather that they have lot of exciting plans in the pipeline over the coming seasons such as the introduction of open water swimming … something both girls have shown an interest in since Tarragona.

The quality of the kit was excellent… down to some pretty new wetsuits that all the kids loved…. allowing them to jump into the water throughout the SUP session… before heading out in double kayaks to see if we could complete a circumnavigation of the entire lake… a tall order but we certainly tried!!!

Every region should have Something special

FFairly hungry afterwards, we also grabbed food at the lakeside restaurant that overlooked the watersports area… A pretty busy day that led to some tired faces as we headed back the 5mins or so to the nearby caravan site… Would we recommend the water sports? 100%, it really was a great experience for our girls in a safe and enjoyable environment….. Would we try SUP again? Absolutely, the planning is already in place to give it a go down the Dordogne in September!! Did the good weather help? I’ll leave you to make your own decision!!!

so where did we park the bus for the night?

We stayed at the brilliantly located Nene Trust ‘Ferry Meadows’ campsite (run by the Caravan Club). It’s onsite and offers plenty to do for families within easy walking distance.
