Motorhoming in Croatia | Exploring Istria from Camping Orsera

Motorhoming in Croatia | Exploring Istria from Camping OrseraScore 64%Score 64%

If you’ve stayed at this large resort-style campsite near Rovinj on the Istrian Peninsula in Croatia, you’ll know it’s set in a spectacular bay with direct access to its own pebbly beach. It really is a special part of Croatia not to be missed….

LLeaving behind our stunning campsite pitch at Camping Orsera, we’ve discovered the uncomplicated yet endearing peninsula of Istria cushioned between the turquoise Italian facing shores on it’s west and the deep azure blue waters of the eastern Adriatic coastline. Abundant vegetation tumbles down rolling hillsides to centuries old historic towns and picturesque Istrian villages that combine with the natural beauty of the countryside. There’s even a  reminder of enjoyable days in Flåm, Norway with the impressive Limski Fjord and it’s olive farms and roadside wine tasting stalls (see above picture)
Camping Orsera is another from the chain of ‘Camping Adriatic’ campsites that have given us such great stays recently including Camping Resort Krk, Camping Marina or Camping San Marino on Rab. The pitches at Orsera sit peacefully amongst a grassy campsite, with each pitch enjoying superb ocean views towards the tiniest of Croatian Islands….
But for those that choose to spend their time inside the ‘Leading Campings‘ resort style complex at Playa Montroig, you’ll not be disappointed by what you find… so we thought we’d try and distil it down into six reasons why we’d happily return here next summer.

Every campsite should have Something special

It has got some excellent facilities, with great food served in the restaurant and plenty of green open spaces for the kids to play ball, enjoy the climbing frames or even grab a piping hot shower…. But this is a campsite for those who opt for a view over facilities or who prefer location over campsite activities… The view below shows it all, as we’ve enjoyed a spacious corner plot that overlooks the gently lapping waves…
But for those of you who either love exploring, or have children that need to ‘burn off a little energy’… you’ll love Camping Orsera’s location… Only 40mins south to an easy parking spot beside the amphitheatre and harbour in Pula… you can head northwards to explore the Roman Settlement of Poreč in 15mins.

If you’ve missed our recent visit to the truly stunning island of ‘Korčula’ (see drone footage/video here)… there is a certain similarity… set on an island, it has plenty of winding alleways to explore… but this is very much a planed settlement… Full of Roman flagstones/cobbles, symmetrical roads, there is clear evidence of Italian architecture in each building… So whilst Korčula is very much Greek, Poreč is undeniably Italian!

So if you do head across to the sunny shores of Croatia, don’t just head for the Dalmatian Coastline or the abundant Croatian Islands… spare a thought for Istria, as you won’t be dissapointed!

After some busy days either in the water parks, enjoying the beach or playing in the sports centre… each evening has been spent enjoying a quiet drink on the sun terrace overlooking the pools……as the girls check out the entertainment schedule for the following day.

Whether you’re camping, touring or staying in one of their luxury mobile homes… it’s the perfect place to enjoy one of Spain’s most beautiful campsites and we’d happily return in a heartbeat! It’s been a great start to our adventures northwards towards France.
