Want to know Slovenia better…. where else to start but Ljubljana!

Considered a country for the outdoorsy! You’ll find plenty of opportunities across Slovenia whilst others might prefer to head indoors into caves at Postojna or Predjama. But whatever you do, don’t miss out on the old city in Ljubljana.
There’s so much to Ljubljana, it is easy to see why people talk so animatedly about their capital city… the pace of life may be set by the riverside cafes and their superb restaurants, yet the sheer activity of this ‘outdoor’ nature is clearly evident…. bikes whizz pass (as if you were in Amsterdam) whilst funicular railways sail above your heads to the old castle that sits imposingly above the old town.
Ljubljana
With only one day to see the sights, we enjoyed a whistle stop tour of the castle… hiking up the hill to reach the view of snow capped mountains behind Ljubljana before sliding down on the uber cool funicular railway… heading into the old town for some Slovenian delicacies whilst enjoying the stalls extolling Ljubljana’s position as Europe’s Green Capital for 2016 or the launch of the Cycling Festival (Europe) 2016.
Timber framed buildings in soft shades of colour match perfectly with the elaborate architecture that sits on each facade.
The people are quick to greet you and the overwhelming feeling of a proud nation is tangible… the old town strikes the right balance between historic centre and bubbling hive of social life…
It’s old town is separated by the river that snakes lazily through the centre, gently winding its way under yet more bridges…. some are clearly centre piece landmarks (the 3 bridges!) whilst others have individual personalities such as the bridge with padlocks adorning each wall…
Eclectic, endearing and most of all… a place to return!!! LifeinourVan recommend a visit, a great safe city for families to visit and enjoy
