LifeinourVan 2016 European Roadtrip Highlights – so what makes it to the top of the list?
2016 was our families most adventurous year yet! We’ve had so much fun capturing our travels and hope the adventures continue throughout 2017 and beyond. So having pretty much wrung every conceivable drop of adventure out of 2016, we’ve hiked into volcanoes, cruised Norway’s fjords, searched for the Loch Ness Monster & even found time to get into a bobsleigh…
Completed a tour of Scotland‘s NC500, we were amazed by the wintry snow covered landscapes of the Isle of Skye, Glen Coe, Loch Ness & the Cairngorms
Drove the entire length of the UK on our ‘John O’Groats to Lands End‘ journey
Taking our new Adria Matrix south, we headed out on an Adriatic Adventure, taking in France, Italy, Sicily,
Before moving into Croatia, Slovenia, Austria, Germany, Belgium & Holland… even squeezing in a pit stop to the Adria Factory along the way.
Starting a new City Experiences theme to our European Roadtrip, we took in Oslo, Bergen, Copenhagen and Stockholm as part of our ‘Scandinavian Summer‘.
This proved to be perhaps the highlight of the year with the truly stunning Nordic landscapes matching the adventure seeking outdoors opportunities
Exploring France we returned to the place this European Adventure was first discussed as we kayaked the Dordogne, tasted French Chateaus and explored the French Atlantic Coast
Continuing to head across this wonderful country, we loved enjoying French life by visiting a gite and seeing the likes of Talmont. Even leading to our award by Complete France Magazine as one of their ‘Top 6 Inspiring Travel Blogs on France‘
Having loved our extended stay in France, we’d now decided to share this with the girl’s grandparents and escorted them on their first European Motorhome Adventure as part of our ‘Taste of France‘ circumnavigation of the entire country
Finishing our ‘Taste of France’ but with our previous Andalusian Adventure luring us south, we started to head south towards Spain
Our family roadtrip adventure returned to family favourites such as Valencia , Camping La Marina whilst adding new experiences in places like Albarracín or Seville
And last but not least, we made our way north from the family friendly Algarve beaches through the stunning country of Portugal before returning back to the UK in time for a family Christmas
So how does it look in sheer figures:-
- Countries Visited – 23
- Miles Travelled – 24,329
- £ Spent – £19,439
- Days on the Road – 321
- Family Experiences – 191
- Outdoor Adventures – 94
- New Roadschooling Topics – 89
And what will 2017 bring?
Well, we have every intention of finishing off the remaining countries of Europe so we can say we’ve visited all 42 countries (27 so far and counting!) & add more to our RoadSchooling Adventures for our girls.
But there are some places on our wish list that we can only hope we end up this year, or at least in the near future… We can all dream!!!
