Helmsley | Picture-Perfect Gateway to the North York Moors

Helmsley’s pretty town centre in North Yorkshire is well known to walkers, motorcyclists and those within the hunting scene….. But thanks to their new free motorhoming aire, it’s far more than just an ideal lunch stop or passing through place enroute to the North York Moors... The town’s picturesque location, on the River Rye, is surrounded by beautiful countryside and moorland beyond….. Making it the perfect place to explore and discover on a crisp winter’s day in November (as much as a sunny July weekend)
Banishing the winter cold in Helmsley’s Porters Coffee Shop…..
You’re never to old or young to visit a bird of prey centre..
It’s hard to single out just one aspect of the visit that really impressed us…. Perhaps it was the clever stamping book that gave the girls a quick guided tour of the birds. Or maybe it was seeing the experienced bird handlers being attacked by the petulant sea eagle…. or maybe it was the innovative signage and clever use of ‘child friendly’ exhibits like testing the weight and wingspans of each individual bird……
Love local history? why not try rievaulx abbey or helmsley castle……
