Family Motorhoming: A Campsite Paradise at Camping Resort Krk
With the spring sunshine hitting Europe, thoughts might just be turning to summer holidays later this year. So if you’re looking for the best value ‘family motorhome site’ in Europe? A place to unplug from daily life whilst the kids are fully entertained? Why not consider taking your family on a camping / motorhoming adventure to one of Europe’s ‘Leading Campings‘ sites at Camping Resort Krk in Croatia.
This campsite is so carefully designed and impressively well manicured that you’d not be surprised to know that the owners clearly have an eye for detail. But when it was explained that the slated mirrors over the washbasins were designed to allow you to brush your teeth whilst you enjoy a relaxing sea view… well that took it to a whole new level!! Perhaps only matched by two other campsites we’ve found across Europe – Turiscampo (Algarve, Portugal) & La Marina (Alicante, Spain)
Camping Krk, Croatia
attention to detail
This amazing level of detail continues to be consistently high across the entire site. Perhaps the easiest example is the main swimming/kids club area. A showpiece centre where everything seems to flow… allowing families to relax and enjoy this area due to the easy viewing angles and safe entries into the pool areas. Well placed sun canopies also offering great shade for little toddlers/babies too… It really is the perfect place to kick back and start enjoying a break on this sunny island….
Accompanying an impressive 350+ pitches are over 125+ mobile homes and one of the new Adria Glamping Tents….. I’d imagine it might hold around 1600 people in the height of summer but it was pretty busy already on a sunny Easter weekend in April! Perhaps no more busy, than in the bustling ‘Bella Vista Premium’ section of the campsite… With it’s own porter, conceierge and designated parking spots… every mobile home has a sea view or guests can enjoy their own swimming pool too!! Very swish!
Impressive Views
Talking of our ‘house on wheels’, it was time to find it a space for the weekend… so for those that love to see an example of a sea view pitch…. here’s our ‘pitch with a view’ plus the excellent reception area beforehand… which reminds me to compliment the management as we couldn’t fault the quality of the staff across the whole visit… as ever happy people give great service…. and they were certainly happy!!
In fairness, we’ve been impressed with sites across Europe with these type of mobile homes… as we think they offer great value accommodation for families. So with Camping Resort Krk only 20mins from the nearest airport for Rijeka and as it was roughly 50euros a night in April. An Easter family break for visitors from the UK might only cost around 500 euros including flights for a week. Not a bad price and one we’d consider if we didn’t have the big silver bus that we’ve toured Europe in for over 500+ days!!!!!!
So if you’ve had a hard day battling the water slides… or snorkelling in the crystal clear seas… you might just want to consider some time in the Spa… maybe enjoy the Scandinavian Sauna that reminded us of a brilliant visit to Voss, or even grab a treatment (the girls loved having their nails painted)
a place the whole family can relax
It’s hard to describe just how high quality the facilities are across the site, but the new sanitary block gives a pretty good impression below… these are great for adults and kids alike and you can even rent a private bathroom if you fancy even more space!! For us, there the best we’ve seen in Europe and they are almost 95% eco friendly (grey water, full recycling, solar energy etc) But when you also add in the on-site bakery, excellent on-site market, local produce sellers & excellent laundry facilities too… it’s been such a useful stopover for any motorhomer like us who are enjoying an ‘Island Hopping’ adventure in Croatia
Perhaps the girl’s favourite aspect to any safe campsite, is the ability to get on their bikes and go an explore on their own… but although this type of ‘freedom’ is very much something we encourage, it’s always easier to do this in a well patrolled, safe environment like we found at Camping Resort Krk. We’d imagine the access ramps and low level lighting makes it great for those with limited mobility, and for those who love to take pets on holiday, the site’s even dog friendly with their own beach and shower area!!!
visit across the year
If you’re thinking of visiting Croatia this year, then although we’ve loved seeing it in April, we’d recommend timing a visit for May or September…. Apparently it’s hard to find any space in the summer months and the sea temperature just nudges up nicely to a comfortable mid 20°C in these months… But it’s not often you find a campsite with an outdoor heated pool that operates at 26°-27°C…. perfect for some family fun in the sun followed by beach volleyball or mini golf in the activity centre near reception…
If you find yourself in the rare position of needing time out of the campsite, then the island is packed with places to see… from small bustling fishing harbours to quiet coves perfect for picnics. You can even find the narrowest street in the world (Vrbnik) or a 12th Century Old Testament extract chiselled from stone (Baška)… There are 5+ small villages to explore on the island or you can just take the 20mins wander from the campsite to the old stone walled settlement of Krk…… enough to easily keep you busy for a week!
It really is well worth a place in our ‘Top 50 Campsites Across Europe‘ and we’d head back in a heartbeat….. now where’s our travel schedule for May & September!!
