Cycling in the Cairngorms

With the winter sun beating against the windows, it seemed too good an opportunity to miss… a chance to get onto the bikes following a well needed ‘lie in’ at Grantown on Spey! With the campsite facilities well used by all, we headed into Grantown and a chance to see how the Adria coped with town parking… suffice to say it wasn’t a problem and the only difficulty was heading off quickly… since a fair few people came by to ask more about the van!!
Only a short drive outside of Grantown, the Anagach Woods were everything we had hoped for… beautiful heather carpets, superb ridges with vertiginous falls on either sides… and ice!! lots of ice!!! causing some tricky descents through the tighter sections… It was 2hrs and 15kms of much appreciated fresh air and exercise and great to see both girls coping so well (its been a few weeks since we have been able to get the bikes out for any length of trip)
The River Spey surged past the last parts of the ‘red route’ past a Scottish curling club which prompted many questions from both girls…. it was back into the forest and a short ride back whilst searching for the elusive red squirrels.
After yet another chat with a few couples in the car park in the woods, we headed northwards towards Banff and the North-East coast….
