Croatia | Camping Šimuni a Campsite that works for Kids, Parents & Grandparents

Apparently the new buzzword is ‘3G’, with three generations of a family holidaying together – grandparents, parents and kids. But could ‘Camping Šimuni‘ offer enough activities to suit everyone’s holiday needs alongside a chance to relax together as a family? It certainly impressed us on our first visit in April but what would it be like with more people to please..

Just imagine the scene, a setting sun colours the horizon as you all opt for a gentle stroll down the beach towards the bustling centre of the resort to enjoy a well earned drink.. Whilst we realise it’s not everyone’s cup of tea, we feel a multi-generation holiday can actually be a win-win situation for the whole family. Any chance like our recent ‘3G’ experience at Bluestone Wales in Pembrokeshire is a real bonus.. Especially for us, as our ‘European Adventures’ has seen us spend over 500+ days road-schooling our daughters in over 33+ countries across Europe.
Someone recently asked why we opt for the campsites we choose? In the case of Camping Šimuni, why not opt to stay in the mild all year round climate on the island of Pag… You’ll find everything you need in the well designed, award winning resort style campsite close to the pretty harbourside village of Šimuni (some 10km from the island’s capital, Pag).

Great restaurants, water sports opportunities, well sized and shady pitches all help make this one of our favourite campsites in the whole of Croatia.

Each campsite we’ve visited has offered something different (think infinity pool in Camping Krk or Camping Nevio’s boat charter service to Korčula) but we like Camping Šimuni’s attention to detail. For instance the option to hire scooters to see the island was a brilliant example. Easy to hire, costs very little (7 euros/hr) and could be hired from just outside the door of our motorhome (literally!). Or perhaps their designated beaches for various activities (including dog friendly beaches). It just seems they’ve designed the campsite from a ‘motorhomers’ perspective and it just works! Even the local craft stalls offered us a chance to enjoy picking up some great presents for Christmas this year!

Every campsite should have Something special

Once you’ve exhausted the array of opportunities within the resort, don’t forget that it also lies within easy reach of the amazing lunar landscape of Pag.. Perhaps taking time to see the local cheese that has won awards across the world or visit the 80,000 olive trees at Lun that date back to Roman times (some 1,500 yrs ago – check this link for the oldest tree in the world)! Plus there’s more including underground aquaducts in Novalja or the lace museum in Pag. Before heading back to relax and enjoy some family fun back at the campsite.
