Want to make every second count on your next summer holiday? Here’s one of the best campsites in Croatia in Camping Simuni on the island of Pag. A blissful retreat for camping/motorhoming families looking for time together.

There are hundreds of campsites across Croatia so how do you choose one that’s right for your family? From great campsite chains like Leading Campings that offer some of the best in the country in fantastic locations with waterparks, an array of on-site activities and even spas. Or do you pick a small, family run campsites where service is everything? Or perhaps you find someplace which offers both like Camping Šimuni on the island of Pag.

If you also have happy memories of childhood holidays spent camping, then we reckon Camping Šimuni is sure to be a winning formula for your kids too. We’ve not found too many campsites around Europe which offer ‘free zones’ for those who get in early and bag a ‘plot with a view!. But add to that the fact that, Camping Šimuni not only adds a stunning location to great facilities like Aquaparks and a buzzing social scene. Although visiting in late March before the season really begins, we genuinely weren’t surprised to read that visitor numbers to Croatia are expected to be up by a third this year…. it really is that stunning a holiday destination! (as shown by the two Croatian picks in this article)

Camping at Šimuni isn’t like sleeping on the beach, it is sleeping on the beach, except with nice showers, good facilities and great views. Only a series of stone walls separate the shingle/sandy shoreline from the serviced pitches you park your motorhome on. Some with the option of pine-tree shade or full sunshine, depending on how desperate you are for some sunbathing!

Every campsite should have Something special

And a lovely beach it is, too, sweeping around the wide bay in case you fancy a really long walk before breakfast… but the lure of nutella/waffles & freshly squeezed orange juice sadly proved too much for our girls as we settled down to a family breakfast to celebrate Catherine/Mummy’s birthday (just don’t ask her age!)

Camping Šimuni is situated in the western part of the island of Pag, near the small fishing village of Šimuni and only 10 km from the town of Pag. We’d chosen to visit the campsite on the basis of this review:-

Camping beneath holm oak, laurel and oleander on Croatia’s Adriatic coast is a refreshingly different Mediterranean experience. The terraced sea-view pitches at Camping Simuni on the island of Pag are about the best on this stretch – the delicate curve of shingle beach below and fabulous sunsets make it picture perfect”

And in fairness they weren’t’ wrong at all… it really is a fantastic place to take kids and will easily make it into our ‘Top 40 Places to Stay in Europe‘. So by the time we’d grabbed our new Vango Camping Chairs & Tables… we were set for a day of R&R after a fairly hectic series of drives across Eastern Europe

Forgot something? Don’t worry the facilities are fantastic

Catherine has been pretty clear that she just wanted a ‘family day’… following some busy city based days in Prague, Vienna or Budapest… just a relaxing day together enjoying life on the road together.. So where better than on one of Croatia’s most unusual island, Pag, a place with over 2,500 hours of sunshine a year! Not only that, but the campsite has 6 beaches to choose from too (Diamond, Pearl, White Sea Gull, Golden, Brilliant & even a dog friendly one at Two Sailors)

As for the facilities…. yet again the campsite seems to get it right. Imagine authentic Croatian styled washrooms in attractive ochre colours… Inside, the authentic look disguises the modern and well kept shower block, washroom facilities.

So with a setting as perfect as this, there was no need to grab for any entertainment tools (iPads, books or games)… it was just one of those blissful days on the beach as a family…. even catching a glimpse of what we think were dolphins merrily playing in the bay.
We’re certainly fortunate to have grabbed a Deluxe Pitch but maybe missed out on visiting one of their 3 restaurants & numerous snack bars too… but is there a better way to spend an evening than watching the sunset whilst enjoying a family BBQ? We’d argue it was almost the perfect day!

so where did we park the bus for the night?
