Ancient Ruins in Rome…..

Having spent some time researching prior to departure, the Lonely Planet guide came up trumps here… We prefer the Discovery series as it is far more visual, great for kids to read with us!
So after a quick drive south from Bracciano, we arrived in Ostia…. situated right next to the main Rome airport (Fiumicino)… it is perhaps one of the most well preserved roman sites (maybe rivalling Pompeii…)
With both girls excited at the chance to see history alive and kicking in front of their own eyes, we headed into the site (a 16 euro family ticket… so well worth it) hoping to see the Baths of Neptune, the famous Amphitheatre and the Thermopolium….
With a cobbled street running through the site, it is easy to conjure up images of yesteryear… either the senator orating from the steps of the main forum, or the ancient college of builders with their separate rooms for masonry, furniture carving etc…
