Heading north from the Gorge du Verdon (after another brilliant family adventure hiking up to the spectacular viewpoint at Point Sublime) We've headed northwards in the hope that we'll eventually get to see the famed Aiguilles de Midi.... but not before some spectacular winding mountainous roads through the breath taking Haute Alpes region.
Staying at Le Crots on the banks of the Savines le Lac... we've decided that the Camping Car Park collection of aires are the perfect choice when travelling/escorting others... the key benefits for us are that our parents are safe in the knowledge that it is likely to be a great destination, has wifi access and an easy to use card system for entry through the access barrier... perhaps for us we'd be happy finding some off the road wild camping / remote aires... but when travelling with other, we've found this can take the pressure off everyone... especially when we're trying to circumnavigate France in just one month!!!
Leaving Le Crots, we've driven past glacial rivers that shimmer and sparkle with the most amazing 'green/blue' colours... Leading to debate in the van whether it is 'turquoise' or 'azur'... Either way it's impressive and well worth seeing in person... Ascended over 'Cols' (mountain passes) with ever increasing gradients and sequences of acute hairpin bends... before descending over the border into Italy.... It was great to return to this wonderful country that we visited in March, even if it was for only a brief afternoon and overnight stop to watch the last part of the 2016 Ryder Cup golf... With both girls loving the amazing statues that make the journey that little more interesting, we headed underneath the Alps via the Frejus Tunnel... just so the grandparents can say they've managed a fully 13km 'alpine tunnel' to add to their growing collection of memories from this trip.
