Do you Love Motorhoming? Are you one of those people who love to grab a wetsuit and go Scuba Diving? Well read on, as you might just love another of those Camping Adriatic campsites we've visited this month. Camping Marina near Labin is on the Istrian peninsula opposite our previous campsite at Camping Krk. Just over a 2hrs drive away, this coastline is by all accounts a mecca for diving enthusiasts.... So judging by the rubber suited people who have exited vans today beside or behind us or even emerged at times in front of our motorhome.... this campsite and diving centre is obviously the place to come!
Camping Marina offers plenty of chances to dive via its Scuba Centre.... with plenty to see under the water judging by these sea floor maps (click here) Both girls loved hearing more about scuba diving.... Especially since they love any opportunity to grab the snorkels and explore what's under the surface of the sea....(Just see our snorkelling videos in the south of France at the bottom of this article..) but sadly with only a short stay booked this time, a real 'underwater adventure' will have to wait for next time!
For those who prefer to stay 'top side'... we reckon there couldn't be a much better 'infinity pool' on the Adriatic (perhaps only Camping Resort Krk might compete with it)... with amazing views back across the Adriatic from the Istrian peninsula ... and even better ones as you watch the sunset from the pool in the evening!
The actual pitches are spacious and enjoy brilliant views over the crystal clear waters of the Adriatic and distant Croatian Islands. We even had our own diving spot just below our pitch and a BBQ with a view... So in honour of this, the first night saw a crackling, sizzling set of Italian meatballs added to the 'pesto pasta'... a perfect evening spent in the company of good friends.
But if you really wanted to splash out and enjoy a week of blissful relaxation, we'd imagine these mobile homes would have just about the perfect views.... and a little luxury too!
But with young daughters, the need to entertain is never too far away... so after a morning of Road Schooling on the Geography and History of this Istrian region, we explored the wider campsite. Set on it's own peninsula, it has that feeling of being far away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, but with just about enough space for people to play ball or grab some fun in the play facilities (including a heated children's pool complete with mini colourful sun loungers!!!)
But we can certainly vouch for the bike trails across the peninsula which was a fantastic way to finish a short stay... the map below shows just where you can explore but if we'd had time, it would have been great to have gone further... perhaps even adding it to our growing 'Bike Advenutures' page
What about the rest of the campsite? Well, if you love the smell and taste of fresh bread in the morning... you'll love the onsite bakery, whilst the sanitary blocks are well looked after and certainly amongst the best we've seen in Croatia... but this site will be remembered by us, for the views on almost every corner! What about those benches or that rock peninsula below for your morning coffee or early evening 'sundowner' drink!
So why visit Camping Marina on the Istrian peninsula, an area that has been Italian, Austria-Hungarian, Yougoslavian and finally Croatian? Well, look no further than a trip down to see the Italian Ampitheatre in Pula or taste the local truffles or simply explore the rolling countryside... This vibrant, colourful area of Croatia is a hybrid of cultures and sights, smells and tastes! Not to mention those spectacular diving spots and beaches to watch the setting sun! It's definitely gone onto our 'must return' list for future visits.
